To Crown Prince ben of Aspell
Ben,
As you have guessed already, my friends from the banished Isle have arrived, or I should say former friends.
Jay set his quill pen down and rubbed his face. The reunion he'd imagined with his friends was much more bitter than the sweet he had hoped for. It had been about eighteen months since he'd seen them, and he had foolishly been excited to be with them again. They were less excited. Ace of Spades had been the first one off the boat. His proudful brows raised in mock amusement.
"You look different," Ace said. "Wish I could have brought you word from your father Jafar, but he his forbidden your name to be mentioned in his presence." Ace stepped passed Jay knocking his shoulder. "Your domain is mine now. You are not one of us."
"Jay!" Evie cried. She was dressed flamboyantly in colors that set off her flawless features well, but Jay wasn't used to looking at such an over the top fashion sense. "It is so good to see you!" She embraced him briefly.
"You're looking great Evie," Jay replied. "How have you been?"
"So bored. Ace may be running things like you used to, but he is much less inventive. I'm excited to see what plans you have in store." Her knowing smile made Jay feel uncomfortable. He was realizing that while he had changed so much since he'd last seen his friends, they had no reason to change, and it was becoming unsettling.
Marlis was next out of the boat, and he looked just as stunning and dashing as father Gaston. "Good to see you Jay," he said with an insincere smile.
With a heart sinking, Jay realized that this was about to become the longest day of his life, and it wouldn't be a good one.
"Jamahl!"
Jay whirled around just in time to catch the girl flinging herself into his arms, her bushy, brown, curly hair making it impossible for him to see her face at first. "Talea! I can't believe you made it."
"Well, I may have snuck out," she said stepping back. "You know how mother feels about me leaving. Ace actually had to help me, but he said I would be a key part to his plan. Whatever that is. I'm just so happy to see you again, and to be here! Is their library as amazing as the rumors? Already it looks so much greener here!"
At least I know we can count on Talea. I've already spoken to her about assisting with Ping. Ben, I hope we can help him. If we can't, I think Ace might try and target him. I've asked Adeline to keep an eye on Ace. I should be getting a report back from her tomorrow evening. She's giving him a tour of the school. Mei and Rosamond will be helping Marlis and Evelyn to get settled. I'm hoping that Mei's good sense will rub off on all three of them. Flynn is going to be working with Ping as well, at least for the first month. I don't know if we'll succeed in helping anyone Ben, but I'm willing to give this all a try.
I thought I felt lonely when I first arrived at Aspell. My friends were so far away, and I was so isolated. Now I feel alone again, and my friends are here with me. With the exception of Talea, I don't think any of them respect me any more.
Ace is pretending to be charming. He must be planning something more devious than we can imagine, and he has Marlis and Evie working with him. They're unreliable though, and he knows that. Ace must be contacting the other Isle kids somehow. Ace is like a poison. He infects everything he touches. Be weary Ben. If he is talking to some of my old friends, they will be in no position to feel of the goodness that you're trying to offer.
Sometimes I wonder if this venture is truly insane. What are you thinking bringing some of the biggest threats to your kingdom right to your front door? But I remember who I used to be,and I reflect on how grateful I am that you took the time help me change. Thank you friend. I will never forget it.
Oh, sorry about LoLo, and making you feel less popular. You just have to admit that when we're together I can get you to loosen up and have a good time. Remember to keep having fun. Remind Kassim that there is a time and a place for slight of hand tricks. And please be careful with Z and Rodger. Z is probably going to be upset that he didn't get sent to Charm with me. I'm pretty sure he already has a plan for how he is going to kill me. Just be weary around those two. And Vivian and Malene aren't going to be rays of sunshine either. I'm really hoping that the weekend with the royal families will help set the mood for the next month. I'm just not looking forward to the rest of this week.
I'm sending this letter now. I'll keep you updated as things go along, and I hope, for our sakes and the sakes of my friends, that this works.
Best of wishes,
Jay
